The McGuire Programme was founded by Dave McGuire in 1994 and we have been operating in Ireland since 1996. The McGuire Programme is the only private organisation in Ireland that deals exclusively with stammering.
We believe stammering consists of a physical component and a psychological component so our approach is to deal with these two issues in order to recover.
We teach a technique (physical) and mentality (psychological) to deal with and overcome the effects of stammering. It is not a cure.

Our Programme consists entirely of recovered and recovering stammerers: we are not speech therapists. Our qualification is that we have recovered or are recovering from our own stammer. We understand what it takes to overcome stammering and the many tricks and avoidances associated with stammering: the physical struggle to get the words out, the unpleasant thoughts relived each time we go to speak.

The Programme assists individuals to overcome the fear of speaking by concentration, assertiveness and non-avoidance techniques. It explains about relapse and how to deal with it, should it occur. It runs workshops to challenge and change the lifelong negative traits associated with stammering.

We understand that recovery from stammering does not occur overnight therefore members are encouraged to return to future courses to further their recovery. Through this experience they become empowered by coaching others, in addition to aiding their own recovery.

This programme is suitable for people who really want to recover from stammering and are willing to work hard and use our follow-up support network. If you feel that stammering is not a major issue in your life or you are not prepared to work hard and use our follow-up support network, then this programme is not for you.
Thousands of members worldwide have now found freedom with their speech, so we know it works. You may occasionally stammer (block and/or avoid) after the course but if you follow our guidance and use our follow-up support system you can achieve eloquence where speaking is fun.
