Course Report, Galway November ’09 by Peter Connolly.
On a normal wet and windy evening in Galway a large crowd gathered in what’s known as ‘the big room’ in the Salthill Hotel. For 21 new students, 3 female, 18 male of which 2 were minors, with an average of 50% overt and covert, it was a big step into the unknown. A lot of anxious and nervous looking faces watched and listened to a warm welcome from our Regional Director, Joe O’Donnell.
Eithne Nevin and Matthew Heffernan got us on our way with the 1st day videos. Their relaxed and pleasant personalities soon had everyone a bit more at ease.
After tea and biscuits Joe introduced myself as course instructor. I got the ball rolling by showing my own 1st day video. I explained to the N.S. that I also sat in the same seat in this room just 4 years ago. It was plain for all to see the transformation in ones personality that can be achieved with this programme and the help and support of a lot of great people. I went on to explain about why we stammer, cycle of panic and the Iceberg. I later gave a brief explanation on Sports Mentality and the objectives and goals of the programme. I concluded the evening with an outline of the next few days and what was expected of the N.S.
